Claudia Wieme was killed in July of 1971 only two miles from her parents' home. She was only 28 years old. Back then, there were no laws requiring passengers to wear seatbelts. Car manufacturers were not even required to install them in cars!
So much has been learned about seatbelt safety since then. Protect yourself and your kids and follow the new guidelines for booster seats for kids regardless of the laws in your area.
I have found about five different families of Wiemes in the US, and many, many more in Belgium and Germany. Someday, I hope to link all those families together as we all are sure they are related. After all, how many other Wiemes have you stumbled upon???
Many thanks to Myriam Hofkens VandenBergh for all her excellent research!
Rochester, New York
Our branch is descended from Martin Wieme and Joanne Marie Landschoot. Their son Martin married Anne Marie Matthys. Maurus was born around 1755 in Maldegem. Maurus and Anne Marie's son was Judocus Adegem Wieme. Judocus was married to Petronella Bernardine Bert. Our branch is descended from their son Francies Wieme and Rosalie DeBuck. They had 22 - children including 5 sets of twins. Yes, you read that correctly. Apparently there was absolutely NOTHING fun to do in Belgium back then, if you know what I mean...... The youngest son of the youngest son seems to be a pattern in our branch. It's a wonder they even exist! I have found two of Francies' sons, Albert and Lewis Charles, in Minnesota. One of their sons was Eduard, who emigrated with them , married and returned to Belgium. Eduard's grandson's wife, Myriam, has done a lot of research in Belgium and has found the archived list of 22 children. I'll be updating this whole page with all of that information soon. More on their branch below.
Gus and Wilhemena had three children, Hurlen, Marian, and Robert.

Uncle Hurlen (Herbie) and Aunt Betty Brown Wieme celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary a few years back with a celebration at the Ferris Goodrich Post in Spencerport, NY. Unfortunately, Uncle Herbie passed away in 2007 - he'll surely be missed!
Their five children are David, Donald, Jamie, Frances, and Linda, along with many grandchildren.
Marian married Jim Cooper and they settled in Detroit, Michigan. They are both deceased now, but their two children are still in Michigan. Hi Mike!
Robert married Claudia Tower in Spencerport, NY, they had two sons, Jeff and Mark, before Claudia's untimely death in 1971 as a result of a car accident. Robert has now been married to Gay since the early 1980s. They still reside in Rochester.
Jeff Wieme, my husband's brother, is a skilled tool and die maker. Jeff is Vice President of TC Service in Spencerport, a suburb of Rochester, NY. His company specializes in the manufacturing of polyurethane products. These products are used world-wide. Click on the link below and see more.
Brady Quill, son of Kristi Wieme Quill and Mark Quill of Rochester, NY, was born Saturday, May 27, 2006. Brady weighed 10 pounds 2 ounces and was 22 inches long.
Mom, dad, and Brady are all doing well. Brady is now 1 year old!!
Brady has the distinction of being the second member of the sixth generation of Francies Wieme and Rosalie DuBuck Wieme's family. The first was his first cousin Lexi Wieme born earlier this year! Lexi is a real cutie pie!!!

IDAHO
The Wiemes of Idaho are originally from Germany. Perhaps Walt can locate that suitcase of family history and enlighten us all.....
Walt Wieme owns FINELINEDDRAFTING, a Drafting, Design, and Graphics business. Fineline has completed a number of private, commercial, and government projects from their offices in Boise, Idaho.
The Wiemes of Minnesota are connected to the Wiemes of Rochester, NY. Gustaf Wieme's brother's Lewis Charles and Albert settled there and are listed on the Minnesota Death Certificate site below:
Eduard Wieme was also the son of Francies Wieme and Rosalie deBuck. Born 15 June, 1892 in St. Laureins, Belgium. He married Maria Mathilde Schoeters (born 24 September, 1895) after emigrating here to Rochester, NY. I am going to look up the date because it is probably in the Rochester online archives.
Eduard and Maria had four children, Francies aka Frankie, Clara, Irène, all born in Rochester, NY; and Jeannine, born after they moved back to Belgium.
Frankie was killed in a car accident when he was about four or five year old and is buried in Jasper, Minnesota, where the Wieme family lived when they first immigrated.
Clara lived in Eeklo, Belgium, until her death and her three children Annie, Kettie, and Ronny live there still.
Irène Wieme married Joseph VandenBergh. Their son is Eddy VanderBergh and his wife is Myriam. Eddy and Myriam live in Zwijndrecht and own an antiques store in Melsele, Belgium. Visit their store! www.antiekdenoudenoverzet.be
Eddy and Myriam have two children, Tabitha and Jarno.

Jeannine is married to Martin Maes and she has five children, and, no surprise, a set of twins!
In a really interesting twist, Eddy and Myriam VanderBergh have several old photographs taken while the family lived in Rochester, NY. The photographs were taken by W. H. Morthorst of 52 Bay St. William Henry Morthorst is the great-great-great grandfather of Nicolas Wieme, who is also the great-great grandson of Francies Wieme and Rosalie deBuck. Many of the Morthorsts lived on Bay St. What a small world it is!
